A hulking St. Bernard and a frail grandmother have become the closest buddies. The woman’s house and the dog’s house are connected by a shared front yard, giving the impression of one enormous property, and this is how they became close.
Sally Rewehooeern, 95, has been living alone since her husband passed away 30 years ago. She has a lovely home in Mount Vernon, Washington, but she was lonely. When the new neighbors moved in next door, everything changed.
Brody, a lovable St. Bernard, belonged to the family. One day, the curious two-year-old dog stood in the center of his new street, evaluating the surroundings and saw Sally. Dave Mazzarella, Brody’s owner, said Brody and Sally became quick friends.
Brody was a twelve-week-old puppy when he was acquired by the Mazzarella family. They moved in next door to Sally not long after that.
Sally noticed that a puppy was sleeping near her door one day. She wished she had some dog treats to give to the dog, but she didn’t. She only had a piece of bread in her pantry, so she offered it to the St. Bernard.
Brody and Sally’s love evolved over the next two years. The St. Bernard would go over to Sally’s house and cuddle with her on the couch while she watched TV. Brody would occasionally assist Sally in her garden, offering her company while she cared to her plants. He’d also lie down on the ground as she caressed his tummy with her foot.
Dave also said that Sally is also a favorite of their other dog, Lulu. Sally’s back porch is a favorite haunt for both dogs.
Sally had a heart attack recently, and while she is fine, her daughters thought that the best thing to do was to relocate her into an assisted living facility a few miles away.
The dogs are mourning Sally’s absence now that her home is empty. Every day, Brody and Lulu visit Sally’s house and wait on her back porch. Brody would go to Sally’s house and put his paws on her window for months. The Mazzarellas were saddened over how their beloved St. Bernard was feeling.
Then Dave had a brilliant idea. He made the decision to take Brody to see Sally!
Sally was giddy with anticipation to see her furry pal and Brody couldn’t contain his delight! The widow caressed the St. Bernard’s tummy as he lay down at her feet, just like in the old days.
