We are no strangers to the sad truth that not all people are warm towards dogs. In the past, several stories and videos have surfaced, showing people maltreating and mistreating dogs. This is a reality that most dog lovers shun to know because the same is heartbreaking. However, not all people are like this. There are still stories about people and organizations rescuing stray dogs that would restore our faith in humanity.
This Romanian hospital is proof of the abovementioned narrative. As a partner of Four Paws International, Adapostul Speranta provides temporary shelter for homeless dogs. Most of the time, the hospital is home to homeless dogs and those with special needs. Apart from temporary shelter, the Romanian hospital likewise provides wheelchairs to dogs who need them.
Paralyzed and disabled dogs are given special care because of their conditions. With the customized wheelchairs, these dogs would be able to move quickly and deal with their disability accordingly. Aside from helping them move freely, the wheelchairs likewise give these dogs a chance to play with other dogs without restriction.
Florina Tomescu, the group’s president, said that the organization ensures that the dogs will no longer go back to their previous lives as strays. Although these dogs’ chance to get adopted is low, the group volunteers still try. For these volunteers, it is always different for these dogs to find a place they could call home.
But even if the dogs could not be adopted, at least they have a place to spend the rest of their lives. Under the care of the hospital, the dogs receive not only food and shelter, but also the emotional support they need. Florina said that these dogs also need an assurance that everything will be alright. This is why the volunteers do their best to address all the dogs’ concerns.
