John Louis Price Jr. from Stevens County, Washington was arrested on the charge of attempted murder. This all started when his neighbor, Ralph Roberts, hired his son to do some chores for him.
When the 16-year-old boy was finished, the 69-year-old Marine veteran refused to pay him. He said that the teenage boy didn’t do a good job so he won’t pay him the 10 dollars an hour they agreed on.
When John heard about it, he became furious. The father and son hatched a devious plan then went back to the senior man’s house.
Left in the woods
John somehow convinced Ralph to go with him and his son. He said that he wanted to show him something in his home. Although the veteran wasn’t in the best of shape, he usually needs an oxygen tank next to him, he agreed.
As he had difficulties walking alone, John and his boy helped him. But instead of taking Ralph to their house, they led him to the woods. Once they were deeper inside, it dawned on the senior man that something was not right. He started to become scared for his life.
The father and son duo robbed the veteran and left him alone, knowing full well that he couldn’t return by himself. John begged them no to leave him behind. But his pleas fell on deaf ears. The two walked away without saying anything.
Call for help
For the next couple of days, Ralph spent his days crawling and screaming for help. It was very hot in the morning, and he had no choice but to drink swamp water to survive. And all throughout his ordeal, his trusty dog, Leia, was always by his side.
After three days of crawling and suffering from body pain, Ralph, in his desperation, told Leia to go and ask for help.
Amazingly, the dog seemed to understand his owner’s command. She immediately left and rushed back home. He then went next door where their landlord Roy Canfield lived.
When Roy saw the dog wandering alone, he knew right away that something was wrong. Ralph never let the dog out, and she was always by his side. He quickly called the cops and told them that he hasn’t seen his neighbor for three days. Roy asked them to do a welfare check on his missing neighbor.
They quickly came and organized a search. After a few hours, they found Ralph in the woods. The responders took him to the hospital where he received medical treatment.
The cops took a statement from him the next day, then they picked up John for questioning. The investigators determined that there was sufficient proof to charge him for his actions.
