Sometimes it only takes one extraordinary dog to create a lasting impact on our lives.
One Lithuanian couple lived through this fact when they lost their beloved dog during one of their travels. They were comforted with the fact that their doggo lived a full and happy life, and this strengthened their resolve in bringing neglected dogs a chance for a better experience.
This adventurous couple, Mantas and Rasa, first came to Thailand a few years ago, encountering the island of Koh Kood while traveling around the country. They promptly fell in love with the island, the friendly locals, and even the canine residents as well. They were so enamored by the culture that they decided to move there for good.
As they started their new life in Koh Kood, the couple noticed the depressing situation of the local stray dogs. They began to understand how many strays there were, with most of them needing medical attention. Sadly, the island didn’t have an animal shelter or veterinary clinic that could help treat these pups.
They adopted their first dog, naming him Zuika, which meant ‘baby rabbit.’ Soon, they found they couldn’t turn away the dogs that needed their help. They adopted a total of fifteen stray dogs, with practically half of them being special needs dogs.
It wasn’t enough to adopt stray dogs, knowing that there were still numerous dogs in need of attention and love. So this couple rolled up their sleeves and got to work.
They took it upon themselves to seek out stray dogs to feed them and give basic first aid. They consulted with vets from their home country regarding specific health issues, educating themselves that they delved into different dog diseases. Fortunately, several goodhearted veterinary doctors also donated food and medicine to support their cause.
When asked why they exerted so much effort in caring for these dogs, they shared that all they wanted was for these dogs to be happy and healthy.
