An employee of an auto yard in Sun City, California was heartbroken when he saw a large dog slowly lumbering inside their property. He could see that the dog was exhausted and had endured a lot of hardships. His eyes were cloudy, and he had difficulties walking around. This suggested to him that the poor pooch was blind.
The worker knew that if his boss saw the dog, he would call animal control. If he got sent to the local shelter, there was a good chance that they would put him to sleep. So he took the dog and put him under a shed. He tied him up, gave him some food and water, then he called a rescue group called Hope for Paws.
The rescue
After learning that the dog’s life was in danger, two women quickly rushed out to save him. When they arrived at the yard, they were met by the employee and led them to a sad-looking dog. Much like the kind man’s reaction, the two ladies felt so sorry for the dog’s condition.
They started talking to him gently, trying to get his trust. They realized that he can’t see them, so they made sure that they didn’t create any startling noises or sudden movements that may scare the old dog. In a short while, they were able to get a soft leash on his neck.
Looking for love
The rescuers took the timid pooch to a vet where he was given a thorough examination. They discovered that he had a long list of health problems. Aside from being completely blind because of corneal cancers, he was suffering from dehydration, skin infection, periodontal disease, and two mass cell tumors.
The dog, which they named Duncan, was given medication, and they expect that it would take some time for him to fully recover. In the meantime, he will safely be staying with a foster family. They are all hoping that he will find a forever family who will love him for the rest of his life. No matter how much is left of it.
