A lot of people are afraid of aggressive dogs because of the chances of getting bitten. However, in reality, dogs only bite in desperate situations out of fear – similar to how a person will defend themself if they are in danger or their life is on the line. Fortunately, professional dog rescuers know what to do when dogs act that way.
A Greek dog rescuer named Takis encountered an aggressive dog during one of his rescue missions. He had trouble getting the dog out of the kennel because it snarled and attempted to bite any hand getting close to it. Fortunately, Takis is not the type to give up without exhausting every possible solution.
Takis wore a glove that would protect him from any potential bites. He slowly moved his covered hand towards the dog but stopped if necessary. After some time, Takis was able to give the dog neck scratches until it stopped snarling.
The dog still barked at Takis, but it was different. It did not attempt to bite, and the fangs were not bared so much. Furthermore, the dog suddenly gave Takis its paw, which was a sign of trust. This happened twice during that encounter which made the rescuer really happy.
After some time, Takis was able to pet the dog without using gloves. It no longer felt the need to be defensive or aggressive. The rescuer became proud of the dog and expressed his affection through loving words.
Whenever people come to Takis’s Shelter, they would be greeted by this dog. He would allow anyone to pet him the way his rescuer does. He also gets along pretty well with the other dogs, which show the same enthusiasm when greeting potential adopters.
Any rescuer who shows true passion for saving dogs would be proud to see a dog change for the better. Not everyone would be patient enough to get the trust of an aggressive dog. This goes to show why people like Takis are a gift to the animal rescue community.
