Zane Brunette, a Canadian who resides in British Columbia, frequently takes his pet along when he goes camping. The six-year-old black pooch absolutely adores the outdoors and gets excited whenever he sees his dad preparing their camping gear.
But they didn’t have the fun time they expected on their last adventure together. Zane experienced his worst nightmare.
Vanished
It was June of 2022 when Zane and Luigi went to Boundary Waters to do some fishing. They planned to camp in the area and spend as much time as possible in the wilderness.
Everything was going well. The dog owner set up camp once they arrived and had a hike afterward. While trekking a popular trail, they encountered a group of other hikers. Zane noticed something odd.
Luigi is a friendly dog and would frequently interact with strangers. So it was not new to see him play with the group they had just met. Zane had a feeling, though, that the people were acting strange. He could see that they wanted his pet.
By the time he wanted to act on his gut feelings, Luigi was gone. Zane became frantic, his best friend was nowhere to be found. He even went to the highest point in the area and started screaming his dog’s name.
Deep inside, he felt that someone had lured his dog away.
29 days
Zane did everything he could to find Luigi. Although he believed that the pup got stolen, he still had hopes that he would still return home.
29 days after the pooch went missing, Zane received a call from a resort owner. The kind lady said that she had found Luigi. The resort was located 45 miles away from where the dog was last seen. Thankfully, the woman who found the dog recognized him from the flyers that Zane distributed around.
The relieved dog owner didn’t waste any time. He quickly drove out to the location and retrieved his pet. Luigi looked a bit thinner, but overall, he was in good health and happy to see his dad again.
