When a dog has exceptional talent, there are two factors to acknowledge. The first is the fact that dogs can be extremely intelligent. The second is that the trainer or owner has done a good job training the dog. Most of the time, talented dogs are both smart and have good owners.
The above statements apply to a labrador named Candy. She’s blessed to have an owner who taught her everything she knows. If it wasn’t for her owner’s undying patience, she would be a different dog today.
Candy’s main talent is centered around the retrieval of various items. She can recognize what an item is called and bring it to her owner when told to do so. The owner also claims that Candy can memorize the name of an item within five minutes of seeing it.
To put Candy’s skills to the test, a filming crew gave her a challenge. They brought several items, all of which she’s never seen before. Candy’s owner was then asked to teach her the names of those items.
Once Candy learned each new item’s name, she had to retrieve each one of them. The owner had to utter an item’s name, and Candy had to pick that item up. The dog didn’t get a perfect score, but her performance was still impressive nonetheless.
After a while, an animal expert visited Candy’s home to see her in action. The expert observed her follow orders and retrieve items from a row. At first, the expert was skeptical, so he asked the owner to make the retrieval scenarios harder.
After Candy overcame the added levels of difficulty, the expert finally acknowledged her skills. The expert had to agree that Candy was one of the smartest dogs he’s ever seen. He also asked the owner how she trained the dog and offered her additional help if she needed some.
